Picking is the assembling of partial quantities of workpieces, goods or products from a total quantity provided. The picking of the partial quantities is carried out according to the orders. This can be order-oriented picking or series-oriented picking.
The picking is partly supported by automatic provisioning systems. This means that data tracking can be implemented or the number of pieces can be checked. The removal can be recorded using a pick-to-light system or scanner, for example, and forwarded to the higher-level system, so that the order backlog can be checked.
The partial quantities can also be made available in shelving systems. Transport systems can be used to transport the partial quantities to the final removal point. A combination of several subsystems can also be planned and implemented very well during picking.
