Pick-to-Light / Pick-by-Light systems

Comparison of the work steps with the assembly sequence using Pick-to-Light or Pick-by-Light

Why Pick-to-Light systems?

With increasing demands in production and assembly processes in component assembly becoming more complicated, intelligent assembly guides are used to reduce errors.

The assembly process is shown to the employee on a display. This lets the worker know which component currently needs to be assembled. The sequence shown ensures that the work steps can be correctly followed without any problems.

In order to maintain consistent quality in production, it is essential to always carry out process steps in the same way. This is also evident in the installation of components.

Here, the current and subsequent work steps are usually displayed by worker-guiding systems. A pick-to-light system is a good way to ensure the best possible installation without additional sensors.

Pick-to-light functionality

A light barrier detects the removal of the components from the corresponding storage and verifies the assembly sequence. "Reaching through the light" is displayed to the employee as an optical signal and recognized by the system as a work step. The system compares the work step with the assembly sequence.

If the removal of the component corresponds to the current assembly sequence, it is marked as "done" and the next work step is activated. The systems, which are often manufactured as a "bar", can be easily coupled to shelving systems without much effort.
