3D layout

Plan the optimal space requirements of the assembly line with a digital 3D layout

Use of a 3D layouts in the planning of an assembly line

In order to assess and determine the exact space requirements for production systems or other applications, a 3D layout is often created after or alongside the creation of a block layout. The 3D layout makes it possible to determine the space requirements in X, Y and Z using already known details of the application or machine. In addition to the space requirements for systems and their parts, this tool is also used to determine the access for material supplies.

The space requirements of a system alone or as a group in a hall are difficult to estimate for new buildings or conversions. Therefore, a 3D layout is used to help: In this process, the space requirements are integrated into the hall layout step by step, from rough assumptions (first drafts) to detailed outlines of the later machines or system parts. In addition to the system components, a 3D layout also includes the material supply, flexible station parts and, if necessary, the transport system of the assembly line. Other fixed elements in the room such as passageways, hall pillars, storage and open spaces are also taken into account if necessary. Therefore, the space required for systems or their arrangement is different (larger) than absolutely necessary.

A 3D layout can also be used to identify danger spots. Here, component collisions, bottlenecks for people and technology, work spaces and gripping paths are identified and adjusted. One of the biggest advantages of the 3D layout is the avoidance of costly rework on the line and further unplanned investments.
